Shahi means royal. Shahi Paneer is one of the old dish which used be ordered whenever someone used to go to a restaurant. Now vegetarians prefer to order paneer butter masala, however they still want to prepare shahi paneer, palak paneer, paneer bhurji at home. The recipe of shahi paneer is very simple. I hope you will enjoy it.

Ingredients for Shahi Paneer:

    shahi paneer
  • 250 Grams Paneer
  • 1 Onion - finely chopped
  • 3-4 Tomatoes - finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup beaten curd
  • 8-10 Cashews (Raw)
  • 2 Green Chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/2" piece Ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 large garlic clove, finely minced
  • 2-3 Cardamoms (ilaiychi), crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilly Powder
  • 2 teaspoon Tomato Sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro leaves - chopped

How to make Shahi Paneer:

Cut the paneer into cubes or one inch long pieces. Keep some paneer aside for garnishing purpose. Soak cashews in warm milk for 20 mins and then blend it. Keep cashew paste aside.

To prepare Shahi Paneer, heat oil in a frying pan. Add onion and let it fry till it gets light brown. Now add ginger, garlic, cardamoms(ilaiychi) and green chilies. Then add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder and salt . Stir the mixture and fry it for 2-3 mins. Add chopped tomatoes and cashew paste and cook it for 5-6 mins.

Add beaten curd, tomato sauce and cook it further. Add water based on the thickness of the gravy required and let it cool. Blend it with blender. Pour the gravy back in the pan. Add paneer cubes and gently simmer it for few minutes.

Garnish it with grated paneer and chopped cilantro leaves. Shahi Paneer is ready to serve.

    1. if u blend all the ingredients first, then they will not come out to be smooth silky paste...it will still remain little rough when even after cooking...

  45. Hello, I stumbled across this page and decided to give it a shot. To be very honest, I was a little skeptic about using curd in Shahi paneer but went with it anyway, and the results were amazing. I forgot to use cumin seeds and yet the paneer was very delicious. Thanks for sharing. This page is definitely going in my bookmarks.
